Ancient Wisdom Beats the Modern Mantra
I am always impressed when I see examples of where the ancient wisdom of our ancestors trumps the "common knowledge" of modern medicine. And nowhere is this more evident than in our relationship with the sun.
With instinct as their guide, the ancient Babylonians and Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas, and the early Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cultures all thought of the sun as a source of health. And they used sunlight as medicine.
Germanic tribes placed their feverish children on rooftops. The Romans used sunlight to strengthen their gladiators. In Greece, Hippocrates - the Father of Medicine - wrote extensively about the healing properties of the sun. The Egyptians erected a city called Heliopolis (City of the Sun), and constructed healing temples where the sick could have sun therapy.
Contrast that to today's message that exposure to the sun is dangerous and causes cancer. The truth is that exposure to sunlight is one of your greatest allies in the pursuit of health, on a par with fresh air, pure water, vigorous exercise, and nutritious food.
When I was researching this topic for my book with Dr. Al Sears, Your Best Health Under the Sun, I came across a remarkable book written by Dr. Herbert Shelton in 1934: The Hygienic System, Volume III: Fasting and Sunbathing.
What is so remarkable about this book is the level of understanding that Shelton had about the physiological effects of sunlight on human health. Given the knowledge of his day, his observations were masterful. And virtually all of what he wrote about sunlight and health has now been conclusively proven by science.
I was so impressed by Shelton's book (which is now in the public domain) that I decided to re-publish it. And as part of ETR's 12 days of Christmas Give-Away Bonanza, we would like you to have it, absolutely free.
Minor edits and deletions have been made (because it was SO long). But in no way has the intent of Dr. Shelton's message been altered. I believe you will enjoy this important work, and it's yours by clicking here.
